Bill Featherston, "What's a Cruise Mom" A/P mixed media silkscreen, 1983. Never one to shy away from politcal statements, this print features a bloody map of Europe with fragmented letters for PEACE at the bottom, yellow curling arrows with dove wings over a blue sky above. William Featherston (1927 - 2009) was an artist for over sixty years. Originally from Toronto, he lived, worked and exhibited in Europe for fifteen years. After a short stint in the United States, he returned to Canada. Bill had major shows in London, Edinburgh, Toronto, Washington, D.C. and Vancouver. Although he taught at many major art schools and universities, he never let that interfere with his work. Featherston exhibited his last work at the Penticton Art Gallery, and Cascadia Fine Art in Vancouver in 2008 and 2009. Featherston's work is held in the collections of the Canada Council, Ottawa Art Bank, B.C. Art Bank, University of Buffalo, Leeds Art Gallery in England, Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and the University of Glasgow in Scotland, among others.
