About the artist: Horst Trave, (German/American 1918-2012), was a German-born painter who was active in the San Francisco Abstract Expressionism art movement. Born in 1918 near Neuburg, Germany, Trave began to study art as a schoolboy. After fleeing Nazi Germany for Sweden as a young man, Trave came to the United States in 1941. In the SF Bay area Trave studied, taught and exhibited his art until his passing in 2012. Despite Trave's reluctance to promote his own work, he became nationally and internationally known. Trave's work have been shown in a multitude of public venues including at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the de Young in San Francisco, the Oakland Art Museum, the California Museum of Art in Santa Rosa, CA and Chicago Art Institute.
