Journeys to Amsterdam, where he came across the paintings of Rembrandt, convinced him to become a professional painter. So he started drawing lessons at the Art School in Augsburg under Heinz Butz, followed by studies of Art at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste as a master student of Fritz Nagel. In his works Hitzler deals with the fortunes of life, experiences between sorrow and positive outcome that he transforms into a process characterized by a spontaneous and impulsive way of painting.
