Valdés often refers to well-known works of art history, from which he reuses and transforms fragments. In the present work Valdés refers to ‘El Perro’ by Francisco de Goya (1746-1828), which was created from 1820 to 1823. It is part of the series ‘Pinturas Negras’ and in the collection of the Prado in Madrid. Condition: The work is in very good condition, showing only the lightest wear to the frame. Manolo Valdés (b. 1942) Born in Valencia Manolo Valdés studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Carlos. In 1964 he founded together with Joan Toledo and Rafael Solbes, the artist group Equipo Crónica, which made its appearance with elements of Pop Art during the Franco regime. Since the early 1980s Valdés has been working independently and developed his own style, which is formed from the study of different artistic periods. Works by Valdés can be found at the Musée National d'Art Moderne and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Fundación del Museo Guggenheim Bilbao, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
