The current highest auction record for a painting by John Meyer is €57,000 Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 9,000 Euro Since the 1990s, John Meyer (born in 1942) has been painting increasingly narrative and enigmatic scenes with characters that are involved in emotionally charged activities. The tension in the painting is reinforced by strong light-and dark contrasts. The viewer becomes the voyeur of an intimate scene and is invited to loose himself in his own imagination. Condition: The painting is in very good condition with slight signs of use affecting the frame. The painting is 92 x 76 cm in size, and the frame measures 111 x 94.5 cm. John Meyer (born 1942) Having grown up in South Africa, John Meyer worked as a freelance illustrator for various magazines, such as ‘Readers Digest’ and ‘The Times’ in London. From 1969, he worked as the first full-time illustrator in South Africa and also started to paint. Since 1972, he worked as a professional painter. Meyer then put his focus on landscapes, portraits and narrative scenes. As a portraitist, he painted portraits of the rich and powerful people, including Nelson Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk.
