The current highest auction record for a painting by Thomas Yeo is approximately €12,000 Thomas Yeo works have been once described as ‘highly imaginative landscapes of the unconscious mind’. The present composition shows an abstract river landscape, which is dominated by a red color scheme that determines the major part of the shore and the sky. The red contrasts with the harmonious blue of the river. Delicate trees provide for white accents and the creation of depth. Yeo’s landscapes were influenced through his art studies, both in Asia and in Europe, as reflected in his works by a mixture of a traditional Asian image conception and influences of the European abstract painting. The painting is signed lower left with ‘TYeo’, being in good condition with light wear. The overall dimensions are 77 x 95 cm, and the board measures 61 x 78.5 cm. Thomas Yeo (born 1936) Born in Singapore, Thomas Yeo graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, the Chelsea Art College and the Hammersmith College of Art & Architecture in London. He is one of the leading abstract painters of the second generation in Singapore, who studied in the West. Yeo’s favorite subjects are landscapes whose motives he finds on his travels.
