The 'Affichistes' followed an artistic approach which is difficult to define with common definitions of art. Their works may be considered as radical, subversive and poetic and could even include the fields of onomatopoeia, performance, happening, photography and film. The artists preferred many colors, abstract and also figurative tendencies. Arthur Aeschbacher's oeuvre is especially characterized by the technique of 'décollage', which actually describes the inversion of a collage: Instead of assembling different elements, the artist rather removed or even teared off different objects and materials. In this way, his 'décollages' probably were early forms of what is known as 'street art', today. The present lot presents two typical collages of the artist, dating to 1963. The left work is titled 'Mr Clavier Tempéré' and the right work bears the title 'Schéma de Structure'. The left work is signed and dated with pencil lower right 'aeschbacher 1963' and verso signed, titled and inscribed 'aeschbacher. Mr Clavier Tempéré. Coll. A.A.G.'. The right work is also signed and dated with pencil lower right 'aeschbacher 1963' and verso titled and inscribed 'Schéma de Structure. Coll. AAG'. The collages are mounted on a white cardboard and appear in very good condition. The framed overall condition are 49.5 x 63 cm. Arthur Aeschbacher (b. 1923) Arthur Aeschbacher was born in Geneva, where he studied at the Art Academy from 1941 to 1944. After WWII he continued his education at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1948 to 1950. Around 1959 he joined the 'Affichistes', whose representatives belonged to the movement of the Nouveaux Réalistes in Paris. His early works were deeply inspired by the pictorial and sublime effects of painting. Later, Aeschbacher increasingly focused on unusual materials such as roller blinds and seems to have been also influenced by Cubism. His oeuvre includes not only décollages but also lithographs and tapestries. Today, works by Arthur Aeschbacher are presented, for example, at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris. The artist lives and works in Paris. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
