Horses 5 1/2" x 7" Mixed media on Board Signed lower right Framed to 13 1/2" x 15" Damage to lower left of board William Gollings (1878 - 1932) Elling William Gollings was an American painter born in Pierce City, Idaho, known for his accurate accountings of the Old West. Gollings drew upon his own personal experiences as a cowboy, and was also known to have studied and admired the drawings of Frederic Remington. During his career Gollings was fortunate to meet several of his great contemporaries. He found encouragement from Will James, Ed Borein, C. Russell, Joe D. Young, W.H.D. Koerner, and Joseph Henry Sharp. It was his eventual friend Sharp who guided Gollings and influenced his work so greatly. His works are displayed in American institutions such as the Gilcrease Museum in Oklahoma, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming and the National Museum of Wildlife Art.
