Coin balance 18th c. Metal pivoted hand balance w. two brass scales and 13 variously stamped brass weights (5 heavier and 8 thinner), in orig. wooden box. With one (of two) clasps. Measurements of box: 17,5 x 5,5 x 1,7 cm An important instrument in the commercial trade at the time. They were used by merchants and money changers to weigh foreign currencies and converting them into the domestic currency. Inside the cover a table is pasted : "Tableau des Monnoies d'or & d'argent qui ont cour dans les differens Etats de l'Europe avec la désignation de leurs poids"
