Song Wenzhi (宋文治; 1919-1999) Chinese traditional painting, ink and color on paper laid to silk, hanging scroll. Signed and dated, in the spring day of Jiazi year (ca. 1984). A sprawling village emerges within the alluvial waterside valley at the foot of immense mountains. Balance is struck between the light and dark markings that make up this work. Washy mountainside recedes into the background allowing for a sense of depth. A concise calligraphic script is placed in the upper right corner. A red seals ensue the swift calligraphy.
