dating: Circa 1630 - 1650 provenance: Northern Europe, Straight blade of lozenge section, with signs of use and small missing part at the tip. Iron hilt with two pierced valves (small amount of missing material on one side), the center of the crossguard is cusped and grooved, the quillons are worked with curls and have a lobed head. A ring on each side is connected to its own valve by two short branches arranged to form a teardrop shape. Missing grip. Faceted and buttoned olive pommel. Pitting and signs of time. T he blade has been partially polished. The filt featuring traces of pitch or old protective coating, all uniform. length 127 cm.
