Budapest, moved to Italy 1890, then France 1892 MONACO , Cinquantenaire de la Fondation de la Société des Bains der Mer de Monaco [50th Anniversary of the Founding of the Société des Bains de Mer de Monaco ], 1913, a gilt-bronze award medal by T. Szirmaï, male bust left in high collar, rev. side elevation of the Casino, named (M. Camille Blanc), 63mm, 108.98g (BDM VIII, 229; cf . MDC e14, 1852-7 for rev .; cf . iNumis MBS 46, 1004 for rev .; cf. DNW 48, 916 for rev .). Good very fine, extremely rare with the left-facing bust, the personal medal of the eldest son of François Blanc; in original maroon gilt-blocked fitted case of issue by T. Szirmaï, Sculpteur-Graveur, 112 Bould. Malesherbes, Paris £100-£150 --- Camille Blanc (1847-1927), eldest son of François Blanc (1806-77), the ‘magician of Monte Carlo’ who established his casino in 1863; the current edifice dates to 1878. Camille took over the running of the casino from his father and was also the founding mayor of Beausoleil, near Monte Carlo, but later fell out with Prince Louis II and was removed from his post. The identity of the portrait on the obverse, which is clearly not that of François Blanc, coupled with the dates 1802-78, is not known to the cataloguer
