VICTORY'S FORETOPSAIL FROM THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGAR mounted on paper with autograph inscription by the marine artist William John Huggins (1781-1845), ‘A Piece of the Victory’s Fore Topsail’ -- sail fragment approx. 3 x 4in. (8 x 10cm.) Framed and glazed William John Huggins (1781-1845). After serving with the East India Company's Marine as a Purser, Huggins returned to England and established himself as a marine artist of note. In 1836, Huggins was appointed marine painter to William IV for whom he completed a set of three monumental paintings of the Battle of Trafalgar (Royal Collection).
