HITLER ADOLF: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1933-45. Dark fountain pen ink signature (´Af. Hitler´) and date, 4th February 1931, in his hand to the head of a 4to page removed from the Visitor´s Book of Pfuhl´s Restaurant in Berlin. The page also bears the signatures of nine other close associates of Hitler comprising August Wilhelm of Prussia (1887-1949) German Prince, the son of Kaiser Wilhelm II, and a vocal supporter of Hitler and Nazism who attained the rank of SA-Obergruppenfuhrer; Ernst Rohm (1887-1934) German military officer and a leading member of the Nazi Party who was a close friend and early ally of Adolf Hitler. Rohm was a co-founder of the Sturmabteilung (Storm Battalion, SA), and in 1934, as part of the Night of the Long Knives, Rohm was executed on Hitler's orders as a potential rival; Wilhelm Bruckner (1884-1954) German Colonel who served as Hitler´s Chief Adjutant 1934-40; Julius Schaub (1898-1967) German SS-Obergruppenfuhrer who served as an Aide and Adjutant to Hitler from 1925-45; Philipp, Landgrave of Hesse (1896-1980) German Prince, a grandson of Emperor Frederick III and great-grandson of Queen Victoria. The Prince was a member of the Nazi Party and became Oberprasident of the Prussian Province of Hesse-Nassau in 1933; Franz Ritter von Epp (1868-1947) German General and politician who served as Reichsstatthalter of Bavaria 1933-45; Joseph Goebbels (1897-1945) German Nazi politician who served as Reichsminister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda 1933-45; his wife Magda Goebbels (1901-1945) who was a close ally, companion, and political supporter of Hitler; and Hermann Esser (1900-1981) German Nazi politician and journalist, one of Hitler´s earliest followers and friends, acting as his de facto deputy and also serving as Vice President of the Reichstag 1933-45. To the verso appear two further signatures and odes by unidentified diners at the restaurant, one writing ´Hard times got you stressed and depressed? Go to Pfuhl's wine restaurant. You'll soon say goodbye to all your ills, And have no need of pills´, 5th/6th February 1931. A rare and significant grouping of signatures by Hitler and his early inner cicrle.
