Edward Maynard Type II Model 1863 carbine in .50 caliber. Serial #12095 (circa 1864). Manufactured by Mass. Arms Co., Chicopee Falls. Breech load lever action. 20" barrel, 36-3/4" overall. Receiver stamped "EDWARD MAYNARD PATENTEE MAY 27 1851 DEC 6 1859". Mark "G.W.S." visible on barrel, stock bears two, easily visible government cartouches on the left side.
