Model 1858 single-shot percussion breech-loading carbine manufactured by Starr Arms Co., Yonkers, N.Y. Marked âSTARR ARMS CO. YONKERS, N.Y.â on the lockplate and âSTARRâS PATENT SEPT. 14th 1858â on the upper tang. Serial #10626 on right side of the breech block mechanism. Round barrel measures approximately 21", overall length approximately 37-1/2". Features the distinctive split-breech, falling-block action, operated by lowering the large trigger-guard lever. External hammer ignition, brass barrel band, and steel mountings. Starr percussion carbines were produced circa 1862-1865 under U.S. Ordnance contracts and saw service with several Union cavalry regiments during the Civil War, including the 1st Arkansas, 11th Missouri, and 24th New York Cavalry.
