작품 상세

Zou Yigui (鄒一桂; 1686-1772) Qing Dynasty Chinese traditional scroll painting, ink on paper laid to silk, hanging scroll. Signed Bright red pigmentation crescendos into layered petals forming the peony bloom, by Zo-u Yigui (1686-1772). Zou Yigui is known to have painted for the imperial family and was notably skilled in painting flowers. Lithe brushwork creates silky smooth leaves that resemble outstretched hands begging for gold from the sun above. This painting adheres to the Gongbi style by capturing the outer realism of the flower while still hinting at the deeper spiritual beauty. The Peony is considered the queen of florae, symbolizing spring and a herald of good luck. In the China’s southern region, it is considered the flower of love, fondness and feminine beauty. Cursive script writing forms an array of characters at the top of the painting followed by two red artist seal marks. This painting is mounted to a sturdy matted scroll.
