15th/16th C. Ming Dynasty, Qiu Ying (仇英; 1494-1552) Chinese traditional scroll painting, ink and color on silk, hanging scroll. Signed. Salubrious waterfront village depicted amongst immense boulders, by Qiu Ying (1494-1552). Qiu Ying specialized in the Gongbi brush technique and was discipled by Zhou Chen. Being a pauper, many wealthy patrons came along side Qiu and funded his artistic venture. He is known as one of the Four Great Masters during the Ming dynasty. Several feminine figures stroll about various pathways under the shade of twisted tree branch. The stone is painted in a lighter color as apposed to the darker water which gives a sense of depth. Semi-cursive script can be found on the left edge followed by a gourd shaped red seal.
