signed FEI'AN, dated 1948, inscribed, and with three seals of the artist INSCRIPTION: I grew a variety of fragrant plantain lilies, okras, amaranths, lychnis, cockscomb and aconite among other species in the courtyard and let them grow and flourish on their own. The flowers bloomed each year in early autumn, brilliant like colourful brocade. It was indeed rather pleasing. After I relocated, the landscape (I live now) is rather barren, so I could only replicate the vibrancy of autumn blossoms in paintings. In early autumn of wuzi year, 1948, I painted after the style of Song dynasty artists at Yushanyanzhai, testing the fragrant ink produced by Wang Jie’an. Inscribed by Fei'an.
