GEORGE V BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL, (Civil Division), awarded to Fireman Harold John Wesley Gurr of Llanelli, 1942. Fireman Gur was attached to a Royal Ordinance Factory in the Ministry of Supply and without considering risk to himself, he and another officer volunteered to search the burning factory building after an explosion, in the belief that there were men unaccounted for and possibly trapped in the burning building. His colleague was also awarded the British Empire medal. Together with correspondence from the central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood at St. James Palace, the Ministry of Supply press cutting and photograph and other ephemera.
