Ben Shahn (Lithuanian, 1898-1969), poster, ''We French Workers Warn You... Deafeat Means Slavery, Starvation, Death'' (Prescott 143), published by War Production Headquarters, WPB, Washington D. C., framed behind glass, signed lower right, 27 1/2" h. x 39 1/4'' w. (Shahn is a well known Jewish artist who was formally trained at the Art Students League and the Nation al Academy of Design, is noted for his outspoken views and political activism. Thus, this image depicts French workers in white and black jackets, with their arms upraised are being rounded up in front of a brick wall bearing a red, official decree from the Vichy government.
