The gelatin silver print presents Paul McCartney in Anchorage, Alaska. The Beatles on their way to Tokyo were forced to spend several hours there, since in Japan a typhoon was raging. The work is recto numbered ‘A/P, 2/3’, titled and dated ‘Paul “Anchorage“ Alaska 1966’ and signed ‘Robert Whitaker’ in black ink. The photograph shows some handling creases, the surface is slightly rubbed in places. Verso are remains of a former mounting. The image is mounted on the upper edge with tape under a mat (reversible). The sheet size of the photograph is 42 x 29.5 cm and has a total dimension of 50 x 40 cm. Robert Whitaker (1939-2011) Robert Whitaker was an international photographer and primarily known for his photographs os the Beatles from the 1960s. He moved to Melbourne in 1961 and studied at the University. What was of great influence was undoubtedly the friendship with the art dealer Georges Mora and his wife, the artist Mirka Mora. In 1964 Whitaker met the Beatles and their manager Brian Epstein during their Australian tour in June 1964. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
