(61.6 x 51.4 cm.) Very good condition Best known for his behind-the-scenes photography taken on location of films, Richard C. Miller's first assignment was on the set of the 1956 film, "Giant." It was here Miller met the now-cultural icon, James Dean. This photograph of Dean shows the actor reclining in front of a fence, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, utterly relaxed in front of the camera. "Giant" was Dean's last film as his tragic death occurred before the movie's release. Dean also earned his second Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of Jeff Rink. Executed in 1955 and printed later, this pigment print is signed and numbered four from an edition of twenty-four. With the artist's copyright ink stamp verso, the work has deckled edges. The sheet measures 24 ½ x 20 ¼ inches. Richard Miller (American, 1912-2010) American photographer Richard Miller was born in California in 1912. Developing an interest in photography at an early age, Miller studied the photography at Stanford University and Pomona College. Best known for his iconic photographs of Norma Jeane Dougherty (Marilyn Monroe) and James Dean, Milled photographed many of Hollywood's biggest celebrities. Miller wass also known for his use of the carbro process to make vivid archival carbro images. His work has been exhibited at the Getty Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Brooklyn Museum, among others. Over the course of his career, Miller's photographs appeared in a variety of magazines, including The Saturday Evening Post, Life, and Time.
