Chéret, Paris In 1871, Mark Twain wrote to his wife about the Duo des Chats during its American tour: "The thing we went to see was a cat-song, by a Swede & his wife -- a performance worth twice the admission fee; there is little else about the show that is worth a great deal. The cat song is very pretty, notwithstanding it is all miawing & yowling" (Samuel Clemens to Olive Clemens, 14 Oct 1871).
