A MID 18TH CENTURY GERMAN ENAMELLED, GILT AND SILVER SNUFF BOX, POSSIBLY FROMERY WORKSHOP Berlin, the rectangular box with silver mounts, the mounts with French eagle head mark, with white enamel and green translucent enamel decoration throughout, including the underside, with gilt decoration of figures and ho-ho birds flanked by stars, 8cm x 6cm Footnote: This snuff box was probably made in about 1730 in the Berlin workshop of French Huguenot emigré, Pierre Fromery (1655-1738), an accomplished steel-cutter, armourer, clockmaker and boxmaker. On his death, his son Alexander (1695-1775) succeeded him as an enameller, boxmaker and dealer in luxury wares.
