A signed letter from Samuel Stiefel to jazz artist Bennie Moten, dated June 20, 1921. 'Just a few lines to let you know that all is well here and that we haven't forgotten about you.... I have arranged for you to go on a national hookup, but the only way you can broadcast nationally is by coming to New York City. The broadcasting people absolutely refuse to arrange a hookup in Kansas City. As soon as you hit New York you will immediately broadcast nationally.... I am about to close some very big contracts for the band..." Opened in 1927 the Pearl Theatre was a notable jazz and dance venue established by the Stiefel family.
