Vadim Kirpichenko (1922 - 2005) was a Russian officer in the KGB, and later worked as a consultant to the Foreign Intelligence Service. He rose to the rank of First Deputy Head of the First Chief Directorate (within the KGB), with the rank of General Lieutenant. After his retirement, he contributed to a multi-volume history of Russian intelligence gathering, authoring two volumes himself. The second of those books is offered here, presented by the author to William "Bill" Webster. William Webster was a judge on the US Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, before serving as both director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (1978 - 1987) and the Central Intelligence Agency (1987 - 1991).
