Presented is a typed letter signed by First Lady Nancy Reagan and dated December 9, 1988. Typed on White House letterhead, Reagan thanks Louis Croland for his concern about “the epidemic use of drugs” in the United States. Nancy Reagan was a passionate advocate against the abuse of drugs and alcohol and made it her primary cause while her husband was in office. In her letter, she wrote that “if one life is saved, all of [Croland’s] efforts will have been worthwhile.” Nancy Reagan (1921-2016) was an actress in Hollywood and later the First Lady of the United States. Her husband, Ronald Reagan, served in the White House from 1981-1989.
