COBDEN RICHARD: (1804-1865) British Radical and Liberal Statesman, associated with John Bright in the formation of the Anti-Corn Law League. A.L.S., R Cobden, three pages, 8vo, near Glamis, Scotland, 15th September 1862, to 'My dear Lord'. Cobden states that his correspondent's kind invitation to dinner 'has found me at a friend's house near the reputed scene of Lady Macbeth's bloody & inhospitable deed', explaining that he has been travelling in the Scottish highlands for the last month and still has more of his tour to complete, including a trip on the Caledonian canal, and that had he been at home he would have gladly accepted the invitation.
