SCHWEITZER ALBERT: (1875-1965) Alsatian Theologian, Musician, Philosopher & Physician, Nobel Peace Prize winner 1952. A.L.S., Albert Schweitzer, one page, oblong 8vo, Oxford, 26th October 1934, to Maude Royden, in French. Schweitzer apologises for the delay in sending his correspondent some texts for a Biblical lecture and remarks 'I was so overjoyed to have seen you again and to find myself back at the Guild House'. Neatly mounted to the upper edge of the verso and with some slight creasing, G Maude Royden (1876-1956) British Preacher & Suffragist, the first woman to become a Doctor of Divinity (1931). During 1934-35 Schweitzer resided in Great Britain, delivering the Gifford Lectures at Edinburgh University and those on Religion in Modern Civilisation at Oxford and London.
