Porcelain with painting in cobalt blue underglaze China, Kangxi period (1661-1722) Elegantly potted baluster shapes with accentuated shoulder and straight elongated neck Decorated with oval reserves containing landscapes and literati scholar’s utensils; small roundel reserves of the Eight Precious Things (babao) Ground is densely filled with flower lattice Long neck is ringed by layers of ruyi head scroll Glazed base bottom shows double circles in underglaze blue Height: 18 in (45.7 cm) Very good condition This pair of blue-and-white baluster vases is gracefully ornamented with floral motifs of peonies and scholarly objects. Oval shaped reserves filled with classical objects including a censer, desk screen, vases, chess board and books, decorate the exterior. Roundels of the Eight Precious Things (babao) are placed at the intersections. The ground is ornamented with swirls of cobalt color. Condition The vases are of beautiful appearance.
