General Bradley was a highly respected officer of the United States Army who had participated in the Battle of Normandy and other famous military engagements. The photograph dedicated to Gary Powers was a high honor, coming from a man of Bradley's importance. Francis Gary Powers was a distinguished pilot for the CIA's U-2 program during the height of the Cold War. Powers was arrested after his spy plane was shot down while flying a high-risk reconnaissance mission over Soviet airspace.
