AUGUSTUS SAINT-GAUDENS (1848 - 1907) American sculptor of famous statues of Lincoln, Farragut, and Sherman, and designer of busts on American coinage. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Windsor, Vermont, Aug. 18, 1901, requesting a book containing an essay by German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. Mounted and framed with an image of the twenty dollar gold coin he designed, and a page from a collector''s guide giving information on the coin. Bears folds and a small tear affecting the place, else very good.
