RARE AUTOGRAPH LETTER W/ ETCHED PORTRAIT - Autograph ALS of Francois-Noel 'Gracchus' Babeuf (1760-1797), French Revolutionary Extremist and early Socialist, editor of 'Le Tribun du Peuple' and leader with Lebois of the 'Conspiracy of Equals', for which he was guillotined on 27 May 1797; this note, signed 'G. Babeuf', is describing the shortages of food in Paris, probably in the winter of 1795, is on a 6 1/2" x 4 1/4" sheet of blue paper, floated behind a two-window mat with a 9 1/2" x 6" engraved portrait by Thomas Cornell (ME, 1937 - ) signed in pencil, titled 'Gracchus', and inscribed 'for Marvin, 1965', in silver and gold molded frame, OS: 24 1/2" x 12 1/4", the ALS has folds, light soiling, rare in any condition.
