Umberto Mastroianni (1910-1998) Set comprising 6 letters with autograph signatures (of which 3 are entirely autograph and 3 are typewritten) of one of the greatest Italian sculptors of the second half of the 19th century, 5 of which addressed to his friend Mario Corgnati, and one addressed to Elda Tessore, superintendent of the Teatro Regio in Torino), some of which date to the first years of the 20th century, concerning Mastroianni's artistic work. Sample contents: "Caro Mario, stamane finalmente ho potuto spedirti le foto del (mio capolavoro) permettetemi una volta tanto tanta sicurezza. Ma io ti scrivo perché la città di Alba prima desidera vedere l'opera prima di ritirarla e tutto questo può essere comprensibile!...". "Come accennato con la situazione politica non mi fido far viaggiare le preziose proprietà per cui abbiamo pensato di portare queste ad un museo più grande...". One letter contains curious sketches in black marker by the artist. Together with: autobiographical volume entitled 'L'ombra lunga' (8vo., pp. 302, softcover, Milan/Rome, Ed. Viscontea, 1991) with an signed autograph dedication "A Daniela Daniele con viva simpatia" and a folder (with an signed autograph dedication to Mario Corgnati) printed on the occasion of the exhibition of the artist's work entitled Omaggio ad Einstein of March 1991 (Rome, Il Cigno Galileo Galilei Edizioni di Arte e Scienza, 1991) containing some critical essays about the artist's work.
