Brooke, Rupert (1887-1915) Autograph 3 page letter Signed by Rupert Brooke in May 16, 1914 at the Hotel Bellevue in Boston. The letter addressed to Mrs. Wells mentions Brooke's adventures in Washington and Boston. He mentions arts and politics. Noteworthy is his description of meeting a group of people operating a 'little Theatre.' He writes, "I found a group of perfectly delightful people, mostly young who are running "the Little Theatre" there and doing very good work, but isn't it remarkable and encouraging - that people who form a group to perform work they really believe in and give their whole lives and chances of fortune and success to it, are so infinitely more happy, and delightful than almost anybody else in the world. A young Englishman and his American wife, who married two years ago had a wedding present of 500 dollars and started a theatre on it." Includes original envelope addressed to Mrs. Wells and postmarked May 17, 1914. [Sold With] Rupert Brooke's Death and Burial Translated from the French of J. Perdrief-Vaissieres by Vincent O'Sullivan. Limited to 300 copies published at Yale in 1917.
