Trần Hà (Trần Văn Hà, 1911-1974, or an artist from the Thủ Dầu Một School) Vietnamese Lacquer Panel, Lively Mekong Delta Scene Length: 116 cm (≈ 45.67 in) | Height: 60 cm (≈ 23.62 in) Polychrome lacquer and gold on wood panel. A magnificent and large Vietnamese lacquer panel depicting a river scene in a lush tropical landscape, likely set in the Mekong Delta or a similar region of Southern Vietnam.The horizontal composition is rich and immersive. In the center, a tranquil body of water reflects the sky and the surrounding vegetation. Several sampans and junks are visible, including a large covered vessel and two smaller dugouts, navigated by figures wearing the conical hat (nón lá).The shoreline is bordered by dense vegetation of stylized palm trees and bamboo, with a distinctive treatment of the foliage in deep brown-black tones and touches of gold leaf, a characteristic technique of Vietnamese lacquer art. Traditional stilt houses are nestled among the trees.The artwork is distinguished by a subtle color palette, playing on the contrast between the deep blacks of the lacquer, the brown-green tones of the landscape, and the golden reflections that illuminate the sky, the foliage, and the water's surface.
