작품 상세

Dato' Sharifah's lyrical abstractions unfold as vivid reflections, expressed through an elegant spectrum of colours that are delicately layered to evoke a poetic rhythm. Her refined understanding of colour relationships is evident in the dynamic interplay of resplendent tones. Through her painterly conflation of overlapping and interlocking colours, the artist constructs a visual language that maps the terrain of the heart. Dato' Sharifah Fatimah has played a pivotal role in the advancement of Malaysian abstract art. A member of the pioneering cohort of Fine Art graduates from the Mara Institute of Technology (now Universiti Teknologi Mara), she furthered her studies at the University of Reading, United Kingdom, and the Pratt Institute, United States. Widely recognised as the First Lady of Malaysian Abstraction, her distinguished career includes major accolades such as the Salon Malaysia Major Award (1979), the Malaysian Landscape Competition Minor Award (1972), the Young Contemporary Artists (Bakat Muda Sezaman) Award (1981), and Third Prize at the Islamic World Painting Biennial in Tehran (2003). In 2006, she was conferred the title of Dato' by the Sultan of Kedah.
