Chan Kok Hooi never misses a chance to make mischief. In Mama..., a lone brassiere, stitched, patched, and painted with reverent precision, hangs like evidence and offering all at once. The batik backdrop keeps things polite, but the joke's obvious: laundry has gone public. Known for his sly takes on Malaysian life, Chan turns fabric into theatre. He paints on batik and denim, sews into canvas, and toys with the viewer's curiosity, inviting us to look, then laughing when we do. Equal parts cheek and craft, Mama... is everyday object, cultural relic, and visual prank rolled into one. He airs the laundry (literally) and leaves us wondering whether we're witnessing devotion or delightfully bad behaviour.
