The series Hijau (beginning c.1998) consists of paintings that can be seen as abstract landscapes. These are influenced by an encounter the artist had in Sarawak; the sight of felled logs by a riverbank brought home the reality of the rape of Nature. The intense, diagonal strokes detailed in the foreground in rich shades of red were integrated with delicate hilly terrains to create a profound sense of depth and grandeur. Senggarang from this series is one of the largest size single canvas Hijau exhibited at the Petronas exhibition by the artist, Yusof Ghani.
