작품 상세
For the past three decades, Lui Cheng Thak developed a sophisticated style that engages with traditional architectural buildings and depictions of street life in Malaysia. The artist depicts the Perdana Putra complex in Putrajaya, the administrative capital, featuring the iconic green mosaic dome which complements the brown stone façade. The work’s monumental quality is conveyed through a frontal view, skilfully executed in a palette of warm tones. Completed in 1999, the building structure combines both classical and vernacular architecture. Designed to be the nation’s pride, it was planned as an ‘intelligent garden city’ with programs and initiatives to protect the environment, and conserves many green areas, wetlands, and parks. Lui studied at the Kuala Lumpur College of Art from 1987-1989. His early solos were As I Was Passing (Hotel Istana, organised by Pelita Hati), Our Heritage (Rusli Hashim Fine Art, 2001), As I Was Passing II (Galeri Citra, 2006), Circles: Nostalgia and Collective Memory (White Box Publika, 2014). This was followed by twelve consecutive solos with Pinkguy Gallery. He had a record of sorts in his Redeem solo exhibition at Pinkguy in 2014 when all 12 works were sold within 18 minutes of opening!
