Low Puay Hua is better known for his Realism renditions, especially of the Singapore waterfront and city / townscapes suggesting human habitation. Unlike here, it is an abstract representation of the Mekong River as the title suggests. The Mekong River flows through six Asian countries and is the world's twelfth longest river and the third longest in Asia. Low Puay Hua graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore in 1965. His accolades include the silver medal at the Salon des Artistes Francais in Paris in 1986, and the Artist of the Year in the Teochew artists exhibition in 2010. He was given a solo by The Art Gallery Penang in 1997.
