While most of the viewers find that this is a highly methodical, structured and highly-disciplined piece of work with intricate, precise lines for design, Nizar Kamal Ariffin’s works bear a greater and deeper meaning to them. From the Siri Pohon Beringin series comes Tumbuh, an earlier work that does not bear the structured lines and lighter centre that the artist is known for. Employing a tranquil, blue palette, a flourished tree is painted at the centre of the work, commanding all the attention. A step closer will reveal Nizar’s brushstrokes that are unique to his works.
