The lovely landscapes that the Malaysian countryside has to offer certainly proves as a muse for Shafurdin Habib, as he captures the beauty of nature at its best, untouched and flourishing. Utilising his virtuosity with watercolour, he paints on paper very skilfully the hills, the trees, the skies along with villagers. Although it is a simple depiction of the sceneries of a humble setting, Shafurdin fastidiously details every single bit and form of this piece, wowing the viewers with its complexity. Another stunning rendition by Shafurdin Habib entitled ‘Menyusuri Sungai, 2011’ is almost true to life with its meticulous execution. This landscape work sees a man on a sampan cruising through the river, surrounded by mangrove trees and other foliage against the blue skies brings viewers back to the simplicity of life.
