작품 상세

The print depicts the mythical thunder god Raikō, here shown unexpectedly playing the samisen, together with a travelling monkey trainer (sarumawashi) holding a training bar. The composition reflects the distinctive Osaka (Kamigata) style of ukiyo-e, marked by strong color contrasts, simplified facial features, and the smaller chūban format typical of the region. Yoshitaki, a pupil of Utagawa Yoshiume, became the most prolific ukiyo-e artist in Osaka in the second half of the 19th century, known especially for portraits of kabuki actors and urban themes of the Kansai area.
