작품 상세

A lyrical landscape view of the riverbank near Nagareyama, belonging to the group of Takahashi Shōtei’s later works printed after the original woodblocks were destroyed in the Great Kantō Earthquake of 1923. The absence of both signature and seal suggests a later edition, probably issued in the 1930s for the export market. Also known as Hiroaki, Shōtei was one of the leading figures of the shin-hanga movement, which revitalized traditional Japanese woodblock printing with a modern sensibility. His landscapes are distinguished by their subtle gradations of light and space, evoking a quiet harmony between tradition and modernity.
