of square section with thick sides, the seal top boldly carved with a recumbent mythical beast resting with its upper body turned towards its left, the head supported on its front left four-clawed paw, rendered with a pair of furled ears on the sides and long locks of wavy mane extending down the back, powerfully portrayed with piercing and bulging eyes framed by bushy eyebrows and thin lower edges of the eye sockets, above its large and wide snout flanked by subtly wrinkled folds, two fangs hanging over chin above a long lock of beard, the taut muscular body with hairs picked out with fine incisions and centered with a prominently pronounced crenulated curved spinal column terminating in a long bushy tail with curled prongs, the seal face centred with three characters reading Yuanjianzhai ('The Studio of Profound Discernment') in a column, between the qian and kun trigrams, flanked on both sides with a tiger and a dragon on the left and right respectively, the beasts depicted with sinuous bodies and slightly agape mouths, the stone skilfully carved to depict a milky-beige mythical beast atop a variegated cinnabar-red bottom
