WU Zuoren (1908-1997) WU Zuoren was a Chinese painter who was born in the province Jiangsu. He painted both the traditional Chinese ink painting and the European oil painting. The artist was famous known for his animal paintings in ink. His 1963 published panda stamps established the Giant Panda as a symbol of the new China. A second series of six panda stamps, which was issued in 1973, and a more complex Panda edition on the basis of his ink painting was created 1985. Wu Zuoren was chairman of the Chinese Artists Association and a member of the standing committee of the National People's Congress. Camel The camel, called luotuo, in known in China since the earliest times. Often double humped it is still today found in the Xinjiang Taklamakan desert and was at the time of the Silk Road an essential beast of burden. Therefore, the camel was a frequently subject of the early Chinese sculpture, usually unglazed or depicted in sancai glaze.
