The Property of a European Collector and Thence by Descent Munakata Shiko (1903-1975) Three woodblock prints from the series The Sutra of Kannon, Compassionate Goddess of Mercy (Kannonkyo hangakan) Showa period, 20th century each a woodblock print, sumizuri-e, with hand-applied red colour to the back of the print, from the series The Sutra of Kannon, Compassionate Goddess of Mercy (Kannonkyo hangakan), 1938, framed and glazed, each with woodblock-printed certificate of authenticity (kanteisho) by the artist's son, Munakata Pariji (1934-1998), hand-numbered in Japanese script 5,149 (the first), 5,150 (the second) and 5,151 (the third) and inscribed Munakata Shiko saku (made by Munakata Shiko), with two red seals, and signed Munakata Pariji, and comprising: - A Minister (Saikan no saku) - Bhikkhuni (Bikuni no saku) - Baron (Sho-o no saku) The first: 41 x 50 cm., 16¼ x 19⅞ in.
