Louis-Benjamin Audemars: His Life and Work; Hartmut Zantke; p. 274 Provenance: Collection Hartmut Zantke Five-body very heavy, engine-turned 18ct gold case by Meylan Frères with big slide on case to activate strike-work and a small slide to stop the jumping centre second, five-piece recessed hinges, gold dome signed: “Louis Audemars BRASSUS (SUISSE), REPETITION A MINUTES, SECONDES INDE-PENDANTES, ECHAPPEMENT A ANCRE; BALANCIER COMPENSE QUARANTE-TROIS RUBIS.” As well as references to prizes won at exhibitions. Diameter 53.8 mm. Enamel dial with Roman numerals and minute circle with Arabic numerals. Gold spade hand, blued steel second hand. Gilded brass bridge lever movement with 30 jewels, three barrels, stop-work, two independent wheel trains that are wound alternately, gold wheels, polished and bevelled steel levers, gold screw balance with blued Bréguet balance-spring, Audemars lever (Bishop’s crook shaped), strike-work with two hammers on two gongs. Signed on bridge: “Louis Audemars Brassus (Suisse) No. 10.838.
